Anita Given The Responsibility To Save Toon's Season!

We reported (on NU Mad) last week that Vurnon Anita was a "luxury player in a side that needed some inspiration".

Alan Pardew has given him the responsibility to provide the bullets for Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse.

Apart from a couple of corners to change the delivery (from Jonas Gutiérrez), Anita took every deadball kick against Man City.

City dealt with most of them, and the goal we scored came from a corner that went sadly wrong and was half-cleared - only for a show of pure class to get it back in the box.

But Anita has a lot of weight on his shoulders, and this could be the making of him.

Pardew: “Vurnon is not getting any taller, but he is growing into the shirt.

“You have to say that the two best players on the pitch were Yaya Toure who is 6ft 5in and the other one was Vurnon at 4ft 3in, or whatever he is.

“He’s given us an exuberance that we’ve needed.”
