17.20pm[LNB] Newcastle United have accepted a British-record offer for Andy Carroll after the striker submitted a transfer request.[LNB] The club said it had made the decision "very, very reluctantly" - but the player's head had been turned by Liverpool.[LNB] Carroll will have to undergo a medical and agree personal terms before his move to Anfield is completed, but with the transfer window not due to close until 11pm, there is still time for that to happen.[LNB] Sources close to Carroll have confirmed that the Gateshead-born forward believes that a deal will be agreed before the transfer window closes.[LNB] In other news, it now appears as though Stephen Ireland's loan move to Newcastle is on the verge of collapse because of a problem with his medical. The Aston Villa midfielder was due to sign until the end of the season, but is now expected to return to Villa Park.[LNB] 15:30pm[LNB] Newcastle are understood to be considering a fresh £35m bid from Liverpool for Andy Carroll. Sources say Andy Carroll is making his way to the North-West.[LNB] 14:30pm[LNB] Newcastle will expect to receive further contact from Liverpool later this afternoon after they rebuffed the Reds' latest offer of £25m earlier today.[LNB] The club first postponed Alan Pardew's routine pre-match press conference ahead of the Magpies' trip to Fulham tomorrow, slated for lunchtime and moved to 3.30pm, but the club have now cancelled that briefing as Pardew is presumably fully engaged in more pressing matters - such as keeping his prize asset at St James' Park.[LNB] 11:40am[LNB] NEWCASTLE United have rejected a Liverpool bid of around £25m for striker Andy Carroll.[LNB] With Fernando Torres set to move to Chelsea for around £40m, Anfield chiefs have moved quickly in an attempt to replace the Spaniard.[LNB] A formal offer of around £25m was made to the Newcastle hierarchy this morning, but it was immediately rejected out of hand.[LNB] [LNB] It remains to be seen whether Liverpool return with an improved offer, but with Spurs boss Harry Redknapp also keen to pull off a deal for Carroll, a busy transfer deadline day is in the offing.[LNB] Meanwhile, Newcastle are expected to confirm a season-long loan for Aston Villa midfielder Stephen Ireland shortly.[LNB]
