Ameobi hopeful after brace

Shola Ameobi is hoping he has caught manager Chris Hughton's eye after heading Newcastle to a sensational Carling Cup victory over Chelsea. The 28-year-old striker scored a dramatic late winner at Stamford Bridge to remind Hughton Andy Carroll is not the only man in black and white who knows how to stick the ball in the back of the net. Ameobi's last-gasp effort was his second of the night after Nile Ranger and Ryan Taylor had overhauled the home side's early lead and, despite a Nicolas Anelka-inspired fightback, it was the Magpies who prevailed. "Obviously the boys have been doing fantastically with another great win at the weekend," he said. "All I can do when I'm given that opportunity is score goals, play well and do well for the team. "The manager knows I'm unhappy, he knows I want to be playing, like every other guy who's not playing at the moment. "But I have got to do my talking on the pitch and hopefully that can push me into the team on a regular basis."
