Ameobi delighted with dream hat-trick

Shola Ameobi fulfilled a boyhood dream when he plundered his first hat-trick to help lift the gloom at Newcastle. With the club's ownership still a topic of intense speculation despite months of negotiations, the 27-year-old Geordie scored three times to see off Reading and launch the Magpies' home campaign with a 3-0 win. While that feat in a Coca-Cola Championship game may not match that of Colombian Faustino Asprilla, who did it against Barcelona in the Champions League in 1997, it was equally significant for Ameobi. He said: "It's a great feeling, scoring your first hat-trick. "I remember sitting in the East Stand paddock watching Faustino Asprilla doing that against Barcelona thinking, 'That could be me one day', hoping and praying. "It's been a while in the making, but I'm delighted, not just for me, but for the team."
