Alan Pardew is said to be in talks with a number of out-of-contract strikers including . . ex-Arsenal man Jeremie Aliadiere and Brazilian Ewerthon. Reports suggest Magpies representatives have been "welcoming approaches from free agents" in a bid to add a striker to their squad. And top of the list appears to be Aliadiere, who is unattached after being released by local rivals Middlesbrough last summer. The Frenchman has been training with various clubs back home in a bid to maintain his fitness. His agent has now approached Newcastle and is believed to be in talks over a six-month contract with an option for a longer-term deal in the summer. Ewerthon (who was released by Palmeiras in January) has also been asking for talks.
