Newcastle have confirmed that they have NOT received an approach from Chelsea for midfielder Cheik Tiote. Michael Essien is set to miss most of the first half of the season after damaging knee ligaments and Chelsea have been scouring the market for potential reinforcements. However, Newcastle United were quick to point out the midfielder is not heading to Stamford Bridge. Newcastle United FC: "The club can confirm that they have received no enquiries for Cheik Tiote, contrary to some media reports." Tiote joined Newcastle from Dutch side FC Twente last summer for £4.5million and has signed a five year deal.
