ShareAlan Shearer revealed on Tuesday night he has been 'unsuccessful' in his talks about taking over as manager of Cardiff City. [LNB]The former Newcastle boss has been one of the people considered for the vacant post, but announced in a statement he would not be taking up the role.[LNB] Tough times: Alan Shearer (right) was in charge of Newcastle when they were relegated[LNB]Shearer said: 'I can confirm that I was one of the candidates that the club spoke to about the vacant manager's position at Cardiff City. [LNB]'During these talks I was most impressed with the vision, ambition and determination of the owner Dato Chan Tien Ghee and the board. Unfortunately those talks were unsuccessful. [LNB]'Cardiff City is a great club and I wish them every success next season.'[LNB] Glory days: Shearer (centre) became a legend at Newcastle for his goalscoring exploits[LNB]Shearer's only previous managerial role was his ill-fated spell in charge of Newcastle at the end of the 2008-09 season, when he won just one of his eight games in charge as his hometown club were relegated from the Barclays Premier League. [LNB]Cardiff have been without a manager since parting company with Dave Jones on May 30 in the wake of their Championship play-off semi-final defeat to Reading. Shearer was only one of a handful of candidates being considered for the post. [LNB]After his stint at Newcastle, Shearer returned to the Match of the Day studio and seemed destined for a lifetime on the sofa as jobs came and went without him being considered.[LNB] Time's up: Dave Jones was sacked by Cardiff after another failure in the play-offs[LNB]But he has made no secret of his desire to give management another crack, while recognising he may have to drop down to the Championship.[LNB]However, the Cardiff hierarchy, who sacked Jones for failing in the play-offs, will continue their search for the man they feel can gain them promotion to the top flight. There will be a ?20million budget for transfers and wages.[LNB]  Newcastle close in on Barnetta with Pardew set to pip Sunderland to GardnerOff the sofa!
