The Premier League’s greatest goalscorer is now on Twitter: Alan Shearer finally joined the social media party today.
The former Newcastle striker used his first tweet to announce the opening of a fitness club in Aberdeenshire.

So if you’re expecting piercing footballing insights and massive assorted lolz – which you presumably weren’t if you’ve seen him on Match Of The Day – you might be disappointed.
Among the first 19 people he followed were MOTD colleagues Gary Lineker and Robbie Savage, as well as the inheritor of his England captain’s armband, Wayne Rooney.
Sadly, he didn’t take up this particular offer…
