Alan Pardew fails in attempt to lure Birmingham assistant to Newcastle

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has failed with a move to appoint Birmingham assistant manager Peter Grant as his new right-hand man at St James' Park.[LNB]But Pardew has landed a new goalkeeping coach in Andy Woodman, who will quit his job at Charlton Athletic after the Addicks' home clash with Walsall on Sunday.[LNB]Grant was Pardew's number two at West Ham, helping them to ninth in the Premier League and FA Cup runners-up, before going on to become manager of Norwich in October 2006.[LNB] Come in number two: Pardew (L) failed to lure his former assistant at West Ham Grant (R) to St James' Park[LNB]He resigned after less than a year in charge at Carrow Road and joined the coaching staff at West Bromwich Albion and Celtic before being appointed first team coach at St Andrew's just five months ago.[LNB]Woodman, 39, played for a number of clubs after launching his career at Crystal Palace, where Pardew was on the playing staff.
