Alan Pardew confirmed as Newcastle manager

Alan Pardew has revealed rival managers warned he was 'mad' to take over at Newcastle on the day he signed a five-and-a-half year contract at St James' Park.[LNB]The former West Ham and Charlton manager paid tribute to the work done by Chris Hughton in getting the Magpies promoted to the Barclays Premier League and admits he can't wait to face Liverpool at the weekend.[LNB]He said: 'I've had a lot of texts from managers saying "you must be mad going in there" but it's a massive club, one of the top five in the country I'd suggest.
