A Magpies-supporting Scotsman won an online auction for Shola Ameobi’s signed Newcastle United shirt – with a huge bid of £4,800. The number 23 shirt from Newcastle’s April 5 game against Sheffield United – the match which followed the Magpies’ return to the Premier League – was auctioned on ebay by Newcastle United Supporter’s Trust in aid of the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. Shola, keen to help raise cash for his former manager’s charity, had asked the first team and coaching staff to sign the shirt in the St James’ Park dressing rooms as they came off the pitch. A total of 46 bids were placed, with the generous Scottish winner bidding from the start to reach the final total of £4,800. The gentleman does not want to give his name.
