Although Afellay was born in Utrecht, he moved and joined the PSV Eindhoven academy.

He made his debut in a cup game at the age of 17 in February 2004. It wasn’t until the 2005-06 season where Afellay started to become a regular at PSV where he made 23 league appearances.

He continued to impress in the first team and by 2007 he was selected by the Moroccan and Dutch managers for their squads. Although the competition for places was fierce Afellay decided to play for Holland as he was born in the country.

After making over 200 appearances for PSV and scoring 38 goals from midfield it was confirmed that Barcelona had agreed a fee thought to be in the region of $3 million. Afellay made several european appearances during the 2010-11 season for Barcelona but due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury his chances have been limited this season.

Holland boast the likes of Van Bommel, Wesley Sneijder, Arjen Robben and Rafael van de Vaart in their midfield so chances for Afellay made be limited. Expect to see this tricky midfielder used off the bench by Bert van Marwijk this summer.
