Dutch wait on van Persie

Netherlands coach Marco van Basten will give Robin van Persie 'the next few days' to prove his fitness ahead of Euro 2008.

The Arsenal striker has missed large sections of the recently completed season with thigh and foot problems, but has stepped up training with his international colleagues in recent days.

"Robin trained for the first time in a month with the group," revealed van Basten.

"That was of course a bit awkward for him. We will see how things go in the next few days.

"After that we will make a decision. Physically he is okay now but he needs to be back to his old self as soon as possible."

Van Persie has scored seven times in 24 appearances for the Netherlands national side.
