Holland notched up their ninth successive win in Euro 2012 qualifying with an academic 1-0 defeat of Moldova here for the 1988 titleholders who had already safely secured their berth to next year's finals.

The Dutch's impressive path to Ukraine and Poland continued in Rotterdam with Schalke forward Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scoring in the 40th minute for the Oranje's 35th goal of the qualifying campaign.

The win moved Bert van Marwijk's men up to 27 points and assured them of ending up as Group E winners.

They had gone into Friday's game in Rotterdam safe in the knowledge that even with a defeat and a win for their closest rivals Sweden they were assured their ticket to Euro 2012 as the best runners-up of all the nine qualifying groups.

Sweden had earlier put themselves in the running to nick top spot on the line with a 2-1 win in Helsinki but the Scandinavians' fate was sealed with Huntelaar's first half strike and his 11th of the campaign with Dirk Kuyt setting up the move.

Robin van Persie went close to doubling up only for his 59th shot to hit the Moldovan woodwork.

Holland carved out their latest win missing a cluster of star names including Wesley Sneijder, John Heitinga, Arjen Robben and Maartten Stekelenburg.

The 2010 World Cup beaten finalists will be aiming to make it a perfect ten out of ten when they complete their qualifying campaign in Sweden on Tuesday.
