Napoli have confirmed the appointment of Walter Mazzarri as their new head coach, following the sacking of Roberto Donadoni.
Donadoni was shown the door following a poor start to the new season, with former Reggina and Sampdoria tactician Mazzarri drafted in to try and turn the situation around.
A short statement on the club's official website read: "Napoli would like to communicate that Roberto Donadoni has been relieved of his duties as first-team coach. We have given the technical duties to Walter Mazzarri.
"The club would like to thank Donadoni for the work he undertook over the past seven months and we want to wish him the very best for the future."
Later club president Aurelio De Laurentiis added: "I had to make the situation clear to myself above all others. I thought back over the last five years where we did some things right, but also many mistakes.
"Now we will start up again, because there is no longer any time to lose. This is a project and not a fling for me.
"To qualify for Europe we need a different organisation to the one we had. For this reason, I have now chosen people more suited to the situation, at least in my view."
