Well want to keep McDonald

Motherwell boss Maurice Malpas has played down talk that striker Scott McDonald is on his way to Wolves in the January transfer window.

The 23-year-old handed in a transfer request at Fir Park in the summer which was rejected by Maplas.

Last week the Australian hitman - who scored the 5,000th SPL goal in Motherwell's 4-2 win over Falkirk last week - reiterated his desire to leave but Malpas is keen to retain his services.

"We are not going to keep answering questions every time there is paper speculation," said Malpas.

"Scott is a valued member of our team. We had enough speculation about him at the start of the season.

"I see players valued at over £1million that I don't think are as good as Scott, so that tells you how much I value him.

"This will be the last time I speak about Scott's future."
