Well wait on McLean scans
18 Jul 2008 - 11:55:17
Motherwell have been dealt a cruel blow early in their pre-season programme afterBrian McLean suffered potentially serious knee ligament damage.
The defender was injured in the early stages of Thursday's 2-1 friendly defeat to Romanian champions CFR Cluj following a bad tackle.
McLean returned to Well's training base on crutches and will be sent for scans amid fears he could have damaged his cruciate ligament.
"I wasn't particularly happy with the tone of the game in general tonight - even down to the vibe that was coming from their bench," manager Mark McGhee told the club's official website.
"I don't know if there was intent - only the player himself would know that. He definitely went in to protect himself that is for sure.
"It is terrible luck for the guy. Whatever happens I am sure he is going to miss some time of the season from this.
"He has been working hard to try and get himself into the frame, which he did at the end of last season when he got back into our eye line and he was very much in contention so it's a shame."
