Motherwell have completed the free transfer signing of Oldham Athletic striker Chris Porter.

The 23-year-old can join the Steelmen on a free without any compensation being paid, a situation that frustrated the Latics.

Porter netted 22 goals for Oldham last season and would have commanded a fee had he joined another club in England.

Well boss Mark McGhee told the club's official website: "We were all aware of the circumstances which allowed us to exploit the transfer rules and get Chris without a fee, which would have been required down South.

"I am pleased to get the player who we would not normally be able to bring if a fee was involved and now he is here I hope he scores goals for us."
