Sutton makes instant impact

Motherwell new boy John Sutton was delighted to mark his debut for the club with a goal in the 1-1 draw with Dundee United.

The 24-year-old has returned to the SPL from an unsuccessful spell with Wycombe Wanderers and made an instant impact for the Steelmen.

He said afterwards: "Scoring means there's a bit of a monkey off your back straight away, but I felt our performance merited a win.

"David Clarkson went through but had a shot saved and then hit the bar, which was unbelievable really and Chris Porter hit his penalty well, but the goalkeeper read it well and made a hell of a save.

"I think we had some decent link-up work at times and played well off one another.

"I only trained with Chris for the first time on Wednesday and I haven't had a lot of time to play with David at all because he was away with the Scotland squad."
