Steelmen blame burst pipes
01 Jan 2010 - 15:15:36
Motherwell have blamed frozen pipes at Fir Park for the postponement of Saturday's Scottish Premier League home match against Hamilton.
The Lanarkshire derby was called off on Friday lunchtime amid safety concerns after pipes burst in two of the stands at Fir Park.
Hamilton have now seen three of their last four games fall foul of the current cold snap.
"Recent freezing temperatures have caused havoc with the water piping system particularly in the East and South Stands," read a statement from the Steelmen.
"Whilst preparing the stadium for Saturday's match, several burst pipes have caused hazardous conditions inside the ground.
"Furthermore there are no usable welfare or catering facilities within either stand.
"Despite clearing the car parks and surrounding areas of the ground, recent snow flurries combined with overnight freezing conditions have compounded the issues.
"In light of the predicted continued freezing conditions, in consultation with both the SPL and the Strathclyde Police, the decision has been taken to postpone the match."
