Porter red annoys McGhee

Motherwell manager Mark McGhee was less than impressed by the sending-off of Chris Porter in the Co-operative Insurance Cup defeat by Hamilton Academical.

Porter was dismissed for a foul on David Elebert right on half-time of the 2-1 defeat and McGhee was far from happy with the decision.

He said: "You just have to take it, it's the way it is. I am still going to try to support them.

"If you ask me how we lost the game, it contributed eventually, but prior to that we weren't playing very well. It wasn't as if we were heading for an easy victory before he sent him off.

"I have been trying really hard to support our referees and promote the idea that we leave our referees alone, but it was a disappointing decision.

"I said 'surely you have got to know the player?' He said he has to give it as he sees, which I don't think is good enough. I think they have got to understand the game as well."
