Phil's a Legend

The fans' memorial to Phil O'Donnell was given it's official unveiling At Fir Park before the game against Dundee United.

At a short ceremony David Chrichton, chairman of the Supporters Trust thanked everyone who contributed to the project and to those wheo worked hard under wet and windy conditions to erect the memorial. He read out a message of thanks from Eileen O'Donnell.

He introduced John Boyle and then Phil's brother, James, and they had a few words with the hundreds of fans who listened in Fir Park Street.  Among the invited guests were Craig Levein, Scott Leitch and Chris McCart to gether with the Motherwell directors.

The inspiration behind the design reflected a word that keeps recurring when fans talk about our former captain - Legend.  That combined with his number 10 shirt provided the basis for the Gorbals Art Project to produce the piece that will be seen by thousands of Motherwell fans as they come to the ground.  A dragonfly was added to the sculpure as it had a particular significance for the O'Donnell family.

Next to the Legend logo is a football dome that seems to glow in claret and amber when illuminated.  It will act as a beacon as darkness falls.
