Parkhead on Saturday

Motherwell will make the short trip to the East End of Glasgow on Saturday knowing that a win would give a share of second place in the table. The bookies don't believe that is likely but the feeling will be different in the away dressing room.

A tasty 8/1 can be had if three points find their way back along the M74 to Fir Park and the last couple of meetings between the teams at Parkhead suggest that those odds are generous.  Both of those games ended in narrow 1-0 wins for Celtic and in the last encounter, in January, Hateley's late penalty miss cost us dear.  Since then Motherwell have recorded two victories over Celtic at Fir Park.

Celtic are unbeaten (so far) in this season’s contest but Motherwell now boast four wins and a draw in recent fixtures.  There is no reason to doubt our ability to compete and if we can ignore the big home support and concentrate on our game then we may find success.

Our opponents defended stoutly against Barcelona in midweek but the balance of possession is likely to be in their favour on Saturday.  Their big squad gives Lennon plenty of options and we can expect some changes.

Stuart McCall's room for manoeuvre is limited and the majority of the starting eleven pick themselves.  McFadden's withdrawal at half time last week may hint that he'll be missing.  In any event, the value that Ainsworth and Francis-Angol have delivered recently suggests that they merit inclusion.  Sutton and Anier will lead the way and their scoring record will give the tiny travelling band hope of at least one celebration.

Celtic's unbeaten run will end sometime and with a bit of luck and a reaction to their Champions League game this might be our chance to upset their apple cart.  Heart before head - a 1-0 win for the Mighty 'Well.
