Motherwell see off Hearts test
24 Apr 2010 - 17:15:36
Motherwell grabbed a fine 2-0 win against Hearts on Saturday afternoon to move ahead of Hibs into fourth place in the Scottish Premier League table.
Two goals on the stroke of half-time caused the damage in Edinburgh.
Steven Saunders put the visitors into the lead at Tynecastle in the 43rd minute and a Marius Zaliukas own goal soon after put Craig Brown's men firmly in the hot-seat.
Rock-bottom Falkirk have suffered a hammer blow in their hopes of avoiding the drop after losing 1-0 at home to Hamilton.
Marco Paixao's goal on 19 minutes secured all three points to further add to their impressive points tally this term while keeping he Bairns rooted at the wrong end.
St Mirren won their pivotal relegation clash against Kilmarnock thanks to a solitary Andy Dorman effort.
His goal in the 76th minute was enough to see off Killie and although the visitors huffed and puffed, Jimmy Calderwood's men couldn't find a way back into the clash and they remain just one point ahead of Falkirk at the foot of the table.
In the day's early kick-off, Aberdeen conceded a last-gasp goal as they were held to a 1-1 draw at St Johnstone.
On-loan striker Steven MacLean's early strike looked to have secured all three points but the Dons' hearts were broken as goalkeeper Stuart Nelson put through his own net in stoppage time.
Celtic travel to Dundee United on Sunday while Rangers travel to Hibs knowing a win will secure another SPL title.
