Motherwell v Rangers reaction

Ally McCoist insists Rangers answered their critics with a 3-0 win over Motherwell in the Scottish Premier League on Sunday.[LNB] Goals from Steven Naismith, Kyle Lafferty and Gregg Wylde ensured victory at Fir Park over a side who had yet to concede a goal this season and who were sitting top of the table.[LNB]Rangers headed into this game on the back of a 2-1 defeat in the first leg of their Europa League play-off against Maribor and McCoist knows Rangers had their doubters ahead of the clash with Well.[LNB]He said: "Before the game there were one or two questions being asked about our players, management team, the coaching staff - everybody at the club.[LNB]"It's only one game so let's not get carried away but I thought we answered one or two questions today. It's a long, long way to go and, as pleased as we are today, we know it's only three points."[LNB]McCoist had recorded just two wins in six competitive matches ahead of the meeting with Motherwell and the Rangers boss was asked if he was feeling the pressure ahead of this match.[LNB]He added: "Not at all. The only pressure I'm under is for Rangers to win and to pick a team with which Rangers can get three points.[LNB]"That will always be the pressure that any manager is under at our football club and if you can't handle it you shouldn't be in the job."[LNB]McCoist admits the comprehensive victory was the ideal tonic ahead of Thursday's second leg against Maribor at Ibrox.[LNB]He said: "It's a real boost for us. I don't think there is a massive problem in terms of goalscoring but we now feel and know that we can score goals.[LNB]"I thought the quality of some of the finishes was exceptional. I have to say, we will be giving Maribor a right game on Thursday, of that you can be sure. If we show the same attitude as today, that's all we can ask for."[LNB]Youngster Wylde has been the subject of much speculation over his future, having so far failed to agree a new deal, while Rangers have already rejected an offer from Bolton.[LNB]McCoist said: "I'm really keen for him to stay. He's a typical winger - he does some absolutely brilliant things and then other times you're scratching your head. But that's what wingers do to managers.[LNB]"I was delighted he got his first goal, he earned it and he worked his socks off. I'm very hopeful there is more to come."[LNB]As well as a host of injury problems, American duo Carlos Bocanegra and Alejandro Bedoya - as well as Australian Matt McKay - were all unavailable for selection this weekend as they await their visas.[LNB]McCoist said: "I spoke to Bocanegra and he will be at the British Embassy tomorrow picking up the visa and will hopefully be on a flight tomorrow night.[LNB]"Bedoya is hopefully in Stockholm picking his up tomorrow and Matt McKay will be somewhere in Australia hopefully picking his up as well.[LNB]"You want these things done yesterday rather than tomorrow but we will get them in, which is the most important thing. I'm a firm believer that there is no use worrying about things you can't affect.[LNB]"That's something that has been taken out of our hands and there is no point worrying about it.[LNB]"But we are very, very keen to get them over."[LNB]Despite Rangers' selection problems, Motherwell boss Stuart McCall admits his side always faced a difficult task against the Scottish champions.[LNB]He said: "They had a lot of experienced defenders missing but we knew they had the same threat going forward.[LNB]"We were under no illusions. We said before the game that we knew they had good players. That's why these players are playing with the Old Firm, because they are good players.[LNB]"But we will be judged against St Mirren or Dunfermline or Hibs or Aberdeen. It's a sore one and we are very disappointed with the way things went but to beat the Old Firm you have to score first and we didn't do that."[LNB]The Steelmen thought they had levelled through Jamie Murphy but the effort was disallowed for handball and McCall had no complaints about the decision.[LNB]He said: "He got it right. It came up and hit Jamie's arm, unintentionally, but he controlled it with his arm. With all those bodies, 'Eagle-eye' saw it and got it right. It's disappointing but it was right."
