McHugh in contention for Well

Motherwell boss Ian Baraclough has reported no fresh injuries for Saturday's Fir Park clash with Kilmarnock.

Striker Bob McHugh could be in contention for a return after shaking off the groin injury which has kept him out since the end of October.

Steven Hammell (groin), Iain Vigurs (sciatic nerve), Zaine Francis-Angol (groin), Paul Lawson (calf) and Jack Leitch (knee) will all miss the Scottish Premiership fixture with Killie.

On-loan Everton midfielder Conor Grant hopes he can make the same kind of impact at Motherwell as former Toffees recruits Paul Ruddy and Lukas Jutkiewicz.

The 19-year-old is being given his first taste of top-team football since joining the Steelmen until the end of the season.

He has already made an impact for Well after notching a debut goal and assist during his new side's 3-2 defeat at Ross County last month.

He then helped Baraclough's side to their first win of 2015 as Inverness were downed 2-1 at Fir Park last Saturday.

Kilmarnock are next up for the youngster and he wants to continue his impressive start .

Grant said: "I knew people had come up here and done well and progressed so I knew it was a good chance to come and show what I could do.

"It was my first chance to come out on loan so it was one I wanted to take with both hands and kick on."

Grant has admitted the experience of the older players in the team has been vital in helping him progress in the side - especially with the move marking his first time away from home.

He added: "All the lads have been great with me but obviously the senior lads have been brilliant with me as they have the experience, the knowhow and they've been where I am now.

"Their advice has been brilliant to me and I hope that continues.

"It's my first time away from hope so it's a whole new experience for me."

Gary Locke is looking for Kilmarnock to turn draws into wins as they bid for a top-six finish.

The Rugby Park club are unbeaten in their four games since Locke was appointed interim boss when Allan Johnston departed last month.

However, three of those matches have been draws, including a goalless encounter at St Johnstone last week.

Kilmarnock are seven points behind sixth-placed Saints, and ahead of the trip to Motherwell the target for Locke is the maximum reward.

"If we have aspirations to be in the top six we need to start winning games rather than drawing them," Locke said.

"It is a tough game this weekend. Motherwell are down there fighting for their lives so it is important that we go there with the right attitude.

"But I am positive that we will do that, we did it on Saturday and if we do then we will give ourselves a chance.

"We would have liked to have got a few more wins but the team is playing well, everyone is working hard for each other and I can certainly see the confidence coming back which is great to see."

Locke, who was a robust player with Hearts, Bradford and Kilmarnock, praised his side's determination to keep their goal intact in Perth last week.

He said: "Players were throwing themselves in front of shots and putting their head in where they might get hurt, and that is what is required between now and the end of the season.

"I love it and I think the fans appreciate that as well, and that is the most important thing.

"The one thing about supporters in Scotland, if they see you giving everything you have got, they will get behind you.

"I stress that to the players all the time."

Locke is looking for the same determination against a Motherwell side that pulled off a shock 2-1 home win over Inverness last week to end an eight-game winless run.

He said: "That was a fantastic result for them because Inverness are a top side. We know we have to be at it this weekend to get anything from the game."
