Motherwell soon to be a game changer

There is a far bigger change to Scottish football on the horizon than the Friday Football experiment. Leeann Dempster believes that the imminent launch of the Well Society will be a "game changer".

Speaking to MFC TV she indicated her hope that fans would be able to declare an interest in joining the Society from the end of next week.

She explained that the delay had been due to administrative matters but that accounts and systems were now in place to enable fans to have monies returned in the unlikely event that a critical mass is not reached.

"The delay has been essentially with the admin side of things.  The set up has been trickier than we had imagined but we're nearly there.

Essentially we'll be able to have people come forward and with their applications and show that they want to join the Society by (my best guess) the back end of next week.  The reason that it has taken a little bit more time  is that we wanted to be absolutely certain that the protocols were in place and that everyone knows the targets and that if we were not to reach those targets (which I believe is highly unlikely) that we will be in a position to give people their money back."

She went on to say that supporters would be able to own "a piece" the club.  This might cause concern in some quarters as the early indications were that supporter and community ownership was to be the new model.  Still, until the details are published everything is speculation.

LD continued...

"We're on the verge of something really exciting.  I've maybe been playing things down a wee bit at the moment but the supporters will genuinely be able to have a piece of this club.  John has genuinely taken a step back and no one apart from the community will be able to benefit financially from the club.

We're in a unique and privileged position and I think that this model is one that other clubs can look towards and possibly follow.  If they do and want help or information and they want to know the pitfalls we found along the way then we'll be delighted to help.

This is a game changer for football ownership."
