Motherwell face United for match #7

05 May 2011 09:33
After being thrashed by Rangers we can now look to recover away to Dundee United. This is not likely to be an easy game but it cannot be difficult to improve on the performance of last week! There can be no excuse for the players not knowing each other´s games inside out in this encounter as it is the seventh meeting of the clubs this season.  It is the fifth contest between the teams in 2011 but so far Motherwell have come out on top.  We progressed in both cups, after a replay in the Scottish, and won both our home games in the league.  United on the other hand can only take their own home  victory in the league as cause for optimism. We scored 50 seonds after this kick off However, the league table suggests they have other reasons to be confident.  A poor start to the campaign meant they were never going to challenge for third but since then they have improved considerably and have fourth effectively wrapped up.  Should Rangers win the league, they will be in Europe again. We were dealt a blow in mid-week as Celtic´s loss in Inverness dented our own European chances but that is nothing for us to think about.  Stuart McCall has rotated his side regularly and with a generally healthy squad to pick from there is no reason he will not do so again this time. We have shown in the past we are more than capable of matching United on our day with Humphrey and Murphy posing them particular problems on the wings.  Whether or not we do bring our best game with the cup final distraction looming is a big question though and chances are both sides will be reasonably content with a 1-1 draw.
