McGhee wins Smith praise

Motherwell teenager Darren Smith believes Mark McGhee is the man responsible for the club's upturn in fortunes this term.

A dreadful run at the end of last season under the guidance of former boss Maurice Malpas saw the Steelmen flirt with relegation, but this year they are fifth after winning six of their opening 13 SPL games.

Smith, who has already made 28 appearances for the club, told the Daily Record: "The gaffer has a lot of experience and knowledge of the game. He's been there and done it and won everything.

"Everyone was just a bit down last season when we were in a relegation battle.

"Now all our heads are up and we're excited by the fact we're playing some really good football.

"The feelgood factor is back and long may that continue."
