McGhee targets top three
05 Sep 2008 - 14:38:42
Motherwell boss Mark McGhee sees no reason why his side cannot clinch a third-place finish for the second successive season.
McGhee has only lost Ross McCormack from last term's successful squad having rebuffed Rangers' interest in central defender Mark Reynolds.
"Quite often when teams like ourselves finish third it's because they've got two or three very good players," said the Steelmen boss.
"And, more often than not, those two or three good players get sold and therefore you don't manage to finish third next time.
"But apart from Ross McCormack, we managed to hang on to what we've got and added a couple as well. Bob Malcolm signed permanently and we've got John Sutton.
"So we feel that if we get a fair wind and keep them all fit and healthy then we've got as good a chance as last year. I think our form has shown that too."
