McGhee offers Porter advice
30 Jan 2009 - 12:26:57
Motherwell boss Mark McGhee has urged Chris Porter to join Cardiff City as speculation intensifies that the striker is waiting to see if he is offered a better deal elsewhere.
The Steelmen have accepted a £425,000 offer from the Championship side for the former Oldham Athletic forward but reports suggest Derby County, Sheffield United and Huddersfield Town are also interested in securing Porter's services.
However, McGhee has no doubt as to what Porter should do, saying: "Joining Cardiff is a fantastic chance for Chris to make his mark in the game. I've told him that he'd be foolish to let this pass him by.
"Cardiff are fourth in the Championship and a club that has tremendous ambitions to join the Premiership, either this season or next.
"Chris can play a big part in that ambition. When his head is clear, he will know what a great opportunity this is for him and I will talk to him and urge him to start talking to Dave Jones and take his career and his future to another level.
"It's obvious what he should do and I know he's not thinking straight with the advice he's getting at the moment. But he should clear his mind and think of where Cardiff are trying to go."
