McGhee keen on top-six spot
18 Apr 2009 - 10:54:46
Motherwell boss Mark McGhee has admitted that a top-six finish in the SPL would be a major boost for his club.
The Steelmen need to beat St Mirren and hope that Hibernian fail to see off Rangers to secure a place in the top half of the table before the league splits.
McGhee told BBC Sport: "From the financial point of view, the interim payment the clubs receive at this stage would be important for our cash flow and the running of the club.
"From a football perspective, it would be great to make it. But we have a small squad and we knew, if we had injury problems, it could undermine us and that's what happened.
"November and December were horrendous months for us and that's handicapped us.
"I don't think we could have done any better than we have since Christmas and the boys have pulled their weight, when fit.
"To not make it would be disappointing but not a catastrophe. We want to be in the mix, we want to be battling for cups and battling for Europe."
