McCall urges youth to take a chance

Motherwell manager Stuart McCall has urged his young players to seize an opportunity against Celtic as he faces up to a selection crisis for Sunday's game.

Skipper Stephen Craigan is suspended for the visit of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League leaders and central midfield pair Keith Lasley and Steve Jennings both suffered injuries in last night's 1-0 defeat by St Mirren. Steve Jones and Steven Saunders missed the Saints match with hamstring injuries, meaning McCall's small squad could be stretched to the limit.

McCall said: "All throughout my career I've seen instances like this where an opportunity for a younger player comes up and they take it, and that's what we'll need on Sunday."

He added: "Jennings got a bad tackle in the first five minutes from (Jim) Goodwin, a really bad one on his Achilles.

"He was struggling at half-time. We were going to give him five minutes then take him off then Lasley got crashed in the ribs.

"Jenno struggled all game, Lasley had to come off so again we'll have to count the walking wounded.

"Craigan is suspended on Sunday and I doubt if Jones and Saunders will be available."
