McCall priority is left winger

Stuart McCall has targeted a wide-left player as his first Motherwell signing. McCall enjoyed an emphatic first victory in charge on Sunday when his side beat in-form Dundee 4-0 at Dens Park to reach the fifth round of the Scottish Cup. But his squad is short on numbers following the departure of Alan Gow and Nick Blackman. John Sutton netted two goals at Dens Park and the man who set both up, Jamie Murphy, added a late solo effort to vindicate McCall's decision to restore the pair to more attacking positions. "That was the reason me letting Alan Gow go, because I need a proper left-sided player," McCall said. "I know Sutty plays out there and I know Murph plays out there but for me their best positions are down the middle." McCall added: "You think you are close to getting someone in and then somebody comes in with a couple of extra quid and it fritters away. "I have been down so many dead ends but I had the same at Bradford so it's not something that will get me down, I'll just knock on."
