McCall making final plans

Motherwell manager Stuart McCall has begun to look towards the Scottish Cup final and will make changes for his side's 50th game of the season on Saturday.

Well travel to Tannadice for their seventh match of the season against Dundee United, a side McCall hopes to emulate by lifting the cup at Hampden Park on May 21.

The manager said: "I will rest two or three players. A lot of them have played 45 to 50 games and I think against Rangers last week a lot of them did look leg weary in the second half."

He added: "We'll look to freshen things up so when it comes to the final we're refreshed, raring to go, with everyone fit and ready to play.

"My main focus is winning the Scottish Cup final and between now and then we'll be looking to do everything to do that."

McCall is well aware Dundee United will be out to make amends for recent results between the two sides in Saturday's Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash.

In six previous meetings this season Motherwell have won four times, including a replay success at Fir Park in March which ended United's defence of the Scottish Cup.

McCall added: "They will be looking at revenge. It's a tough place to go - I found that out in my second league game when we were beaten 2-0 (in January). We managed to put in a terrific performance in the cup and get 2-2 and get them back here. But it's a really difficult game."

Although focused on Hampden, Motherwell are also eager to bounce back from the 5-0 loss to Rangers last weekend and finish the SPL with a flourish, with McCall hoping to overhaul the three-point deficit to Kilmarnock to finish fifth.

McCall, whose side follow the United clash with games against Killie and Celtic, added: "We're under no illusions how difficult the games we've got are. But we came into the split and we wanted to catch Kilmarnock. To do that now - with Kilmarnock getting a point against Hearts and assuming they are beaten by the Old Firm - we've got to beat Kilmarnock in the game on Wednesday."
