McCall hails Jeffers

Motherwell manager Stuart McCall enthused about the performance of Francis Jeffers after the former England striker marked his first start for the club with a goal in the 2-1 victory over Aberdeen. Jeffers took just 14 minutes of his first start in claret and amber to escape his marker and glance a header past a motionless Jamie Langfield and cancel out Sone Aluko's early goal. The former Arsenal and Everton player showed his class throughout his hour-long outing, creating space for himself and his team-mates and forcing several saves from Langfield as Motherwell moved into fifth place in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League. Jamie Murphy sealed the points against former Well boss Craig Brown's team when he brushed off the attentions of Nikola Vujadinovic to slot home in the 71st minute and leave McCall proud of his players, including 30-year-old Jeffers. "His movement was excellent, obviously he has taken his goal well," McCall said. "He has created himself another couple of chances, he has got across the front of people. "I thought big (John) Sutton alongside him caused problems, but I could go through the whole team. We had leaders on the park, I asked for that before the game, to stand up and be counted."
