McCall delight at Randolph call-up

Motherwell manager Stuart McCall has hailed the progress of goalkeeper Darren Randolph following his call-up to the Ireland squad.

Randolph has been named in Giovanni Trapattoni`s squad for a Euro 2012 qualifier against Macedonia and a friendly against Uruguay. The 23-year-old has been a revelation since signing a three-year contract at Fir Park after his Charlton contract expired last summer.

McCall said: "You are delighted for all the players that get called up, they have worked hard to do so. Darren has been exceptional for Motherwell, since I`ve been at the club he has been outstanding."

He added: "It is fully merited and hopefully he will do well when he's away with them at the games and training if required."

McCall added: "I remember Darren`s name being put to me about three years ago when I was at Bradford.

"He was on the fringes at Charlton, I think he was number three at the time.

"We ended up taking the boy Scott Loach from Watford who has gone on and done ever so well. They are there if you can search them out.

"Darren has probably exceeded far and away everyone`s expectations of his performances.

"He has been fantastic and has grown and I think you get that by playing regularly. Nothing beats playing first-team football."
