McCall backs strikers to hit form

Motherwell manager Stuart McCall has backed his strikers to start firing his team to victory after a week of frustration. McCall felt his team deserved much more from narrow defeats against Rangers and Kilmarnock, which sandwiched his disappointment at failing to land a new striker before the transfer deadline. Well turn to Scottish Cup duty against Stranraer on Saturday and McCall's belief is backed up by their performance in the fourth round, when John Sutton and Jamie Murphy netted three goals between them in an impressive 4-0 win over Dundee. McCall said: "I look at the young kid Stevie May at St Johnstone the other night, coming on and scoring two. "We have Bob McHugh, who is in plaster, and I was going to bring Gary Smith on the other night until Hammy (Stevie Hammell) got injured. It might be a chance for the young guys to come through. I believe Murphy, Sutton and (Esteban) Casagolda, given a fair crack of it, can produce goals. "It would be more disappointing if we weren't creating chances. Obviously it would be nice to take them. It's the hardest part of football, which is why the strikers get all the money and us midfielders get nothing."
