Motherwell boss Maurice Malpas picked out David Clarkson for special praise as the Steelmen moved off the foot of the SPL table with a 2-1 victory against Dunfermline on Saturday.
Malpas' side moved above the Pars as a result of the victory while Dundee United slumped to the foot of the table.
The Well boss said after the match: "I'm delighted with the result first and foremost. I felt we dominated the first half and never scored. I thought we were sluggish at the start of the second and we scored when I least expected it.
"It's always good for strikers to score goals. Scott (McDonald) has got another one and (David) Clarkson), who has had a bit of a barren spell in the first team, has scored.
"It was an important goal but, as we keep telling them, that's what they're paid for."
