Kilmarnock - 24h on

After three wins in a row we can't be too disappointed that the team could manage only a no score draw with Kilmarnock. They played well, especially in the first half, and kept another clean sheet.

The only regret was our inability to find the net.  Despite lots of tempting crosses and a dozen corners the Killie defence was not breached and our tally of home goals remains embarrassingly low.  Since the 3-0 opening day victory over Inverness, Motherwell have had five league games at Fir Park but the home fans have celebrated only two goals.

The manager was quick to point out that “big Darren didn’t have a lot to do” and he acknowledged the quality of Jaakola’s double save in the second half.   Overall he was pleased with the performance, finishing apart.

On the other hand Kenny Shiels took the view that his team deserved to win the game.  That seems like a vision through blue and white striped glasses given the hiding his team took in the first half and the heroics his ‘keeper produced to keep them in the game.   He argued that we were forced to play long to Higdon and over the top of their backs.  Maybe his missed the torment that Hammell, Law and Murphy handed out on the left or the crosses delivered by Hateley and Humphrey on the right.

The point will keep us in second place for another week at least and the clean sheet is the seventh from twelve starts.  That’s impressive defending!

‘Well fans will be able to watch the highlights and post match interviews on the long awaited MFC TV section of the official website.  At the moment this contains over thirty video clips and as the season progresses it promises to be a useful resource to give supporters from near and far an extra insight into the club.

Following the team next weekend will involve the long trek to Inverness and the prospect of retaining our league position with a win.  On current form we must be favourites.
