A brilliant double save from Kilmarnock goalkeeper Anssi Jaakkola denied Motherwell a fourth consecutive Clydesdale Bank Premier League win as the teams battled out a goalless draw in the lunchtime kick-off at Fir Park.

The Finn, who made a great early save from Chris Humphrey, further frustrated the second-placed hosts by stopping Steve Jennings and Michael Higdon netting just after the interval.

Elsewhere, substitute Liam Buchanan's late penalty meant Inverness had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Dunfermline in the SPL basement battle.

Caley Thistle led through Gregory Tade's diving header until Buchanan's 86th-minute equaliser at Tulloch Caledonian Stadium.

A first-half double by Leigh Griffiths gave Hibernian a 3-2 victory over St Mirren in an exciting clash at St Mirren Park where all five goals came in the first 45 minutes.

A remarkable blunder by Buddies keeper Craig Samson after six minutes gifted Griffiths his first Hibees goal since signing on loan from Wolves in the summer but a Paul McGowan brace within two minutes put the home side in front.

However, Hibs stopper Sean O'Hanlon levelled with a header in the 37th minute before Griffiths fired his side back in front with an angled drive and with no more scoring after the break the points went back to Leith.

Finally, St Johnstone began life without manager Derek McInnes with a creditable 0-0 draw in an insipid encounter at Dundee United.
