John Sutton back in claret and amber

A major step in Motherwell's rebuilding process was completed on Friday morning when John Sutton joined on a two year deal.

The striker was released from his contract at Tynecastle after their well publicised financial troubles and he'll find a warm welcome awaiting in the Fir Park dressing room.

His previous spell at the club was between 2008 and 2011 when he made over 100 appearances scoring 44 goals.  He should be well rested following his time with Hearts as he was rarely given a consistent run.

He'll join Lawson and Vigurs as McCall's third signing this close season but he'll find a few familiar faces waiting to exchange greetings.  Lasley, Hammell et all will be glad to see the return of an old team mate (not so old, he's only 29).

The departure of Higdon was expected and not what we wanted but Sutton seems lke a decent replacement.  Expectations that Sutton will match the marvellous goal scoring exploits of his predecessor would be unfair.

Goal scoring records are broken rarely andif Sutton helps to win us a top half finish we'll be grateful.
