Hammell eyes Steelmen deal

Motherwell defender Steven Hammell is hopeful of doing enough to secure a new contract with the Steelmen.

The 27-year-old moved back to Fir Park in January 2008, but is out of contract at the end of the current campaign.

However, with the 400 league appearance landmark with the club just around the corner, Hammell told the Daily Record: "It's a lot of games, but hopefully I'll play most of the matches this season and make the 400.

"I don't imagine many players will have done that. I'm in the last year of my contract, so need to stay in the team and stay fit."
