Gannon enjoys dream start
24 Aug 2009 - 13:28:38
Motherwell manager Jim Gannon enjoyed a Fir Park debut victory in the SPL after a 3-1 success against Kilmarnock.
John Sutton opened the scoring before a Ross Forbes penalty doubled the lead on the stroke of half-time.
Shaun Hutchison added another before a late Jamie Hammill goal reduced the deficit.
Although delighted with the win, Gannon believes he can get more from his players.
He said: "When all the emotion settles down, it's a fantastic start for my Fir Park debut. The boys applied themselves very well in the first half, they were strong, solid and carried a threat.
"It was a great result but I'm just a little disappointed because it could have been better.
"We had opportunities to counter-attack. Naturally enough, Kilmarnock changed their shape in the second half to go on the front foot.
"I thought young Slaney (Paul Slane) and Jim (O'Brien) had chances to take advantage on the break. The players have to learn to be ruthless and get that fourth goal."
