Dundee 24 h on
"It's just not going for us at the moment", Stuart McCall's statement of the obvious after Saturday's draw with Dundee. He'll be looking for a lucky charm next!
There’s no doubt that we need a break. On Wednesday we managed to lose to United despite hitting the woodwork twice and making a host of chances. Higdon did add to his tally against Dundee but we created so many opportunities in the first half hour that we should have gone into the break with a lead, instead the stalemate lasted until the final whistle.
The manager’s room for manoeuvre is limited. His selections have been packed with forwards while the injuries to Hutchinson and Kerr have reduced the effectiveness of the back line. He was able to select the same team for three consecutive games and returned a win, a loss and a draw. Would the introduction of, say, Carswell and McHugh have made much of a difference?
Our home record is a disappointment. One win from seven attempts at Fir Park is not form that will earn a place in the top six and for the financial health of the club that has to be the target. Fortunately our results away from home give some reason for hope. Three wins, two draws and only one loss on the road is a fine haul and those who make the long trip next weekend will be looking for a few goals.
The unpleasant thruth remains that we have dropped down from the top half of the table. Let's hope it's a just a temporary blip.
