Butcher hails Caley

Terry Butcher went from lambasting his players to lavishing praise upon them as Inverness beat Motherwell 3-0 to move back into the Scottish Premier League's top six.

Butcher was fuming after watching his side lose 2-0 at home to Dundee United only four days earlier, but his players produced the perfect riposte by defeating the lacklustre Steelmen in the Highland capital.

"I savaged them after the United game and Maurice (Malpas, Caley Thistle assistant manager) also savaged them, but we went into the dressing room after the game and gave them plenty of praise because they deserved it," he said.

"Motherwell are a good footballing side, probably better than us, but we worked hard and got the goals at the right times.

"We had a great meeting with the players following the Dundee United game. Normally you only get one or two who say something, but seven or eight said their piece and it was all really positive stuff.

"I also changed our preparation a little bit before the game and even I did something different by sitting in the stand instead of being in the dugout.

"I wanted to give the players something else to think about and it was great to see that it brought about the desired reaction."
