Brown sorry for Well's cup exit
19 Jan 2010 - 08:43:31
Motherwell manager Craig Brown has apologised to his club chairman following Monday's Scottish Cup defeat at the hands of lower division Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
The Steelmen lost 2-0 in the Highlands to exit the competition at the fourth-round stage.
Brown had kick-started his brief reign with a 3-0 victory over struggling Kilmarnock at the weekend but admitted Monday's cup display had been well below-par.
"I feel really sorry for the club and for the chairman, who came back from his holiday in New Zealand to see that," said the former Scotland boss, who replaced Jim Gannon in the hot-seat three weeks ago.
"It's not good to go out of the cup this early because the club could have made a lot of money from staying in the competition.
"I actually spoke to the chairman before the game and he told me that Motherwell's performances in the Scottish Cup in recent years have not been good, so I would like to apologise to him for not doing better."
