Brown hopes Europe holds squad together

Motherwell boss Craig Brown hopes their Europa League qualification can help the club tie down Giles Coke and Tom Hateley on new contracts.

The English pair are the final pieces of the jigsaw for Brown and assistant Archie Knox as they look to keep as much of the squad that took Motherwell into Europe for a third successive season.

Brown said: "These are the two main guys who we haven't got committed yet. There is a wee incentive playing in Europe, but we'll have to start training earlier to be ready for July 15. But it gives us a good pre-season, we'll have at least two good, competitive matches."

Losing Coke and Hateley would leave Brown with a major rebuilding job as four of team who started the final match of the season, a 3-3 draw against Rangers, will depart.

Jim O'Brien has agreed to join Barnsley while Everton pair Lukas Jutkiewicz and John Ruddy have finished their loan spells along with New Zealand international Michael McGlinchey.

Mark Reynolds has also been tipped to leave as he approaches the final year of his contract.
