Brown handed interim Well job
29 Dec 2009 - 11:55:13
Motherwell have appointed former Scotland boss Craig Brown as their new manager on an interim basis.
The Steelmen parted company with Jim Gannon on Monday and have wasted little time in brining in the veteran ex-national team manager, who will be assisted by former Scotland number two Archie Knox.
The 69-year-old coach will be in charge of the Scottish Premier League club for an initial period of three games while chairman John Boyle returns from a trip abroad.
Youth team coach Gordon Young will select the team for Wednesday's league meeting with Hearts.
Brown has been out of club management since leaving Championship side Preston North End in 2004.
Speaking about the decision to sack Gannon, the Fir Park club explained: "Over the past couple of months, it has become abundantly clear that the manager was not fully committed to the club and, despite our best efforts, he repeatedly refused to sign a contract.
"Relations between the manager, staff and directors deteriorated to the extent that the situation became untenable."
