A busy day at the office as two sign up

The long heralded arrival of Nicky Law became a reality when the ex-Rotherham man was paraded at Fir Park. Steve Jennings made it a double signing when he agreed to stay on for at least one more season. We extend a welcome to Nicky Law and hope that he enjoys his stay.  Fans are always curious to get their first sight of any new player and soon make a judgement about their likely contribution to the team.  If our new midfielder can make the same impact as Steve Jennings did when he arrived two years ago then we’ll be well satisfied. Motherwell fans will be delighted that Jennings has signed a one year deal.  He has become a fixture in the team since Gannon brought him from Tranmere.  His 65 appearances to date have been typified by his gritty determination and leadership.  He has become well known to our referees and they frequently chat to him and take a note of his name.  The new man was a favourite at Rotherham and leaves with the best wishes of their fans – always a good indicator.  He is an attacking right sided midfielder and could well be the balance to Humphrey on the other wing.  He played with Sheffield United when McCall was assistant manager and followed him to Bradford.  The manager clearly rates him. It seems that the capture of Gavin Gunning is next on McCall’s list and he may be the only one we can afford.   Reports quote the manager saying, "We really only have one spot left.  Although the budget is the same, a lot of the players have got more money so it has basically taken a place off us. But I'm delighted we have kept the quality intact. We need to get one more in the defensive area."   So it looks like another season where we will run with a squad that could be the smallest in the division.
